We are a Dallas, Texas based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose passion is to support Jamaican schools and students in need. We are all volunteers, so 100% of our funding can be devoted to achieving our goal. It is our mission to give schools and students, as young as 3 years old, an opportunity for success.
Jamaica Youth Education Support (Jamaica YES) was founded in 2004 by five Jamaican expats living in Dallas, Texas who came together to assist a school in Jamaica – St. Theresa Basic School in St. Mary parish. The group asked the principal what school supplies they needed and the response the group received was they were more in need of funding for food. The school was in need of a breakfast program to help feed the 3-6 year olds who were coming to school hungry. Jamaica YES launched a breakfast program, paid for the cook to prepare the meals and funded transportation so 3 teachers could obtain their Basic school certification.
Since its founding in 2004, Jamaica YES has assisted thousands of children through various breakfast and lunch programs, school transportation, donated books and computers, supplied vegetable seeds to grow their own food, and partnered with Icare to provide eyeglasses to students, to name a few. Jamaica YES strives to be a full service resource for the impoverished students of rural Jamaica. Currently Jamaica YES concentrates on providing funds for breakfast programs, it is difficult to learn when you’re hungry.
How We Raise Funds
We rely on the support and generosity of individuals and businesses with monetary donations but we also raise funds throughout the year by having a bowl-a-thon, annual golf tournament, hosting a car wash, partnering with a local recycle company (Donate 2 Impact), to name a few. In the past we have hosted an annual gala, participated in community garage sales, Family Fun Days and Walk-A-Thons. Again, all of this couldn’t be possible without the generosity of individuals and businesses, which we greatly appreciated.
We hope to secure additional sponsorships and donations allowing us to expand our efforts and impact even more Jamaican children, providing them better educational opportunities and a brighter future.
