Conrod Goulbourne

President

Unlike most Jamaicans abroad who claim to be from Kingston, I hail from the hills of Jamaica. The small country community of Bartons, St. Catherine is where I was born and raised. I am a past student of Good Hope Primary School and St. Jago High School, both in St Catherine.

After finishing fifth form at St. Jago, I immigrated to Milwaukee, WI. In Wisconsin, I completed 12th grade at West Division High School followed by Marquette University. I then moved to McKinney, Texas where I currently reside. I worked for JCPenney for 22 years and currently work for Hewlett-Packard, Inc. Both places an Information Technology project manager.

My hope is that our organization will continue to make a difference in creating a learning environment that will help the students we support to achieve academically. This is critical as the youths are the future of any society, so let’s help to provide them with the tools to succeed.

Uvolin Graham

Born and raised in St. Catherine, Jamaica, I migrated to Brooklyn, New York and then to Plano, Texas. I worked for JCPenney Company as a Project Manager supporting online promotions and marketing events. I am passionate about what we do at Jamaica Youth Education Support and the schools we serve.

Peter Graham

Treasurer

I was born and grew up in Bog Walk, St. Catherine, Jamaica. Having served in the Jamaica Defense Force for six years, I then moved to Brooklyn, New York. I was a buyer of operational and production supplies for JMR Electronics in the Bronx and Axel Electronics in Queens, New York for 5 years each.

After 10 years of snow and ice in New York, our family moved to the Dallas area. Since moving to the Dallas area, I worked for the JCP Company in various positions and retired from the Transamerica Insurance Co. in 2016 as a Senior Financial Analyst.

My hope is that through my contribution to the Jamaica Youth Education Support, we will be able to create positive chain of events in the schools and children we support.

Marty Walker

Events Coordinator and School Outreach Coordinator

I’m originally from Seattle, WA and received a BA in Economics from the University of Washington. Joanne and I moved to Frisco, TX in 1994 due to a job transfer. I retired in 2011 after serving 35 years as Regional Director with the U.S. Dept. of Labor.

We started vacationing in Jamaica in 1997 and have come to view the island as our second home. We fell in love with the Jamaican people and have many friends there. Joanne and I wanted to find a way to give back to Jamaica, especially the children. Through a chance meeting at Sam’s with one of the members of Jamaica YES in 2017, we found an avenue to achieve our goal of helping the impoverished school children of Jamaica.

As the Events Coordinator, I am committed to planning and executing events that guests will enjoy while simultaneously provide funding for our various programs in Jamaica.

Serving in the capacity as School Outreach Coordinator, I am the point of contact for all schools we currently support and ensure they comply with our strict accounting protocol.

Joanne Walker

Public Relations and IT

I grew up in Seattle, Washington and attended high school and college there. I worked for government contractors for the Department of Defense and Department of Labor for a number of years before moving to Dallas in 1994 with my husband. In Dallas, the last company I worked for was Deloitte (over 17 years), in their Technology Dept, primarily as a Sr Regional Asset Manager.  I retired from Deloitte in 2015.

My husband and I first visited Jamaica in 1997, 1999 and now making it an annual trip since 2007. We have fallen in love with the island and its amazing people. Having traveled to all fourteen parishes, we have seen a lot of beautiful places away and have met so many wonderful people, many of them have become great friends and some like family.  Wanting to find a way to be able to give back to those who have shown us so much love and generosity over the years, we are fortunate to be with Jamaica YES since 2017, giving us an opportunity to give back to Jamaica and its people, especially the children.

Suzette Grant

Diaspora and Alumni Outreach Coordinator

I am a graduate of Lynn University, University of MO – Kansas City, and FIT – NYC and spent 15+ years designing apparel for retail giants JC Penney and Macy’s. In 2015, I changed industries to insurance, taking on a new career managing accounts for Travelers Insurance. Now I am an insurance industry national account manager, specializing in technology-first insurance carriers.

Education has played an essential role in my success. I view education as the most important change agent for young children. As a member of Jamaica YES, I am focused on the group’s goals of providing opportunities for the success of children in Jamaica.
