Jamaica Youth Education Support (Jamaica YES) was founded in 2004 by five Jamaican diaspora living in Dallas, Texas who came together to assist a school in Jamaica – St. Theresa Basic School in St. Mary Parish.  A person at the school, who had been a classmate of Dawn Renwick, mentioned that the students didn’t need books and they didn’t need computers, they needed food.  The school was in need of a breakfast program to help feed the 3-6 year old children who were coming to school hungry.  Jamaica YES launched a breakfast program, paid for the cook to prepare the meals and funded transportation so 3 teachers could obtain their Basic school certification.  The rest is history, Jamaica YES remains dedicated to ensuring no child in Jamaica attends school on an empty stomach.
